Brooks Brothers, a leading global fashion retailer, operates a high-traffic e-commerce platform on Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC) to serve millions of shoppers worldwide. Brooks Brothers is a legendary global lifestyle brand that has shaped American style through fashion innovation, fine quality, exceptional service, and value. Since its founding in 1818, the brand’s offerings have grown to more than 30 categories, including tailored clothing, sportswear, outerwear, shoes, accessories, fragrance, and a home collection. The brand is available in 500 freestanding stores, shop-in-shops, and outlets in 45 countries worldwide.

The Challenge

As one of the most iconic apparel retailers, Brooks Brothers required a stronger defense against malicious bot traffic that was inflating traffic volumes, increasing infrastructure costs, and threatening customer experience on their Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC) storefront.

Their existing setup, which included Salesforce’s native CDN along with Akamai, provided basic caching and delivery capabilities but lacked the advanced bot management, rate-limiting, and edge security features needed to keep pace with modern threats. Brooks Brothers turned to NULogic, their managed commerce partner, to design and implement a streamlined solution that eliminated the need for Akamai, reduced complexity, and significantly strengthened site security while maintaining stability during high-traffic retail events.

The Solution

NULogic implemented a dual-CDN strategy with Cloudflare sitting in front of Salesforce’s native CDN, creating a layered approach to security, performance, and reliability while removing Akamai from the stack to simplify operations and reduce cost.

Key elements included:
  • Bot Management & WAF: Leveraged Cloudflare’s advanced bot detection, WAF, rate-limiting, and API shielding to block malicious hits before they reached SFCC.
  • Performance Optimization: Applied Cloudflare’s Anycast routing, image optimization, and edge caching for faster global delivery, while Salesforce CDN continued serving static storefront assets.
  • Resilience & Peak Readiness: Configured Cloudflare’s Waiting Room and failover logic to ensure checkout stability during peak shopping events like Black Friday.
  • Edge Logic & Flexibility: Deployed Cloudflare Workers to enable header rewrites, redirects, and feature toggles without requiring SFCC code changes.
  • Operational Alignment: Designed a cache-coherency and purge strategy to keep Cloudflare and Salesforce caches synchronized during product and promotion updates.
  • Vendor Consolidation: Retired Akamai from the architecture, reducing complexity and ongoing infrastructure costs.
