Client

NULogic partnered with Tottus, part of the Falabella Group, to replatform from ATG to a modern, headless commerce architecture. By implementing commercetools, Contentful for content management, and a React/Next.js frontend on Google Cloud, we enabled a scalable, SEO-friendly, and high-performance digital shopping experience.

Tottus, a leading supermarket chain founded in 2002 in Peru and later expanded to Chile, has rapidly grown into a key player in Latin American retail. With a strong physical store presence, its innovative last-mile delivery application (Tottus App), and a robust e-commerce platform, Tottus delivers a seamless omnichannel shopping experience. The retailer offers a wide range of products from global and local brands, with a strong emphasis on its own-brand line, reinforcing its reputation for quality and value.

The Challenge

Tottus, part of the Falabella Group and a leading retailer in Latin America, needed to modernize its digital commerce operations to stay competitive in a fast-evolving market. Their legacy on-premise Oracle ATG platform was expensive to maintain, lacked agility, and restricted scalability. The outdated on-premise infrastructure further slowed down innovation and made it difficult to support multi-brand, multi-channel retail operations.

Tottus required a complete replatforming to a cloud-native, API-first, headless commerce architecture that would:

  • Support multi-tenant, multi-channel commerce across multiple brands and regions.
  • Integrate seamlessly with back-office systems including PIM, supply chain, product catalogs, and order management.
  • Deliver faster, SEO-optimized customer experiences through modern frontend technology.
  • Enable flexibility to connect payments, email, loyalty programs, and other third-party services via APIs.

The Solution

NULogic played a pivotal role in planning, architectural design, and execution of the replatforming program. Partnering closely with other stakeholders, NULogic ensured a seamless “big-bang” migration from Oracle ATG to commerce tools and from legacy on-premise infrastructure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Key elements of the solution included:

  • Cloud Migration: Transitioned from on-prem datacenter hosting to GCP for scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency.
  • Headless Architecture: Implemented commercetools with a Node.js backend (Fastify) and a React/Next.js frontend for agility and high performance.
  • System Integrations: Seamlessly connected commerce tools with PIM, supply chain, product catalogs, and order management systems.
  • Multi-Tenant Enablement: Designed an extensible architecture to support multiple brands and channels within a unified ecosystem.
  • 3rd Party Integrations: Enabled flexible integration of payments, email, and additional services through commercetools APIs
  • Frontend Performance: Optimized for SEO, page load speed, and routing using advanced techniques like code splitting, significantly improving customer experience.

The Results

With NULogic’s architectural expertise and end-to-end delivery support, Tottus successfully transformed its digital commerce operations and launched a modern, scalable platform that positions them for long-term growth.

Key outcomes included:

  • Seamless Migration: Executed a smooth “big-bang” transition from Oracle ATG to commercetools with minimal business disruption.
  • Cloud-Native Foundation: Leveraged Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to achieve greater scalability, higher uptime, and improved cost efficiency.
  • Enhanced Customer Experience: Delivered faster site performance, optimized SEO rankings, and improved first-page load speeds with a modern headless architecture.
  • Operational Efficiency: Streamlined workflows by integrating back-office systems, PIM, supply chain, product catalogs, and order management.
  • Future-Ready Flexibility: Enabled Tottus to seamlessly support multiple brands and channels, while creating a foundation for continued expansion and innovation.
