Five themes from the show floor, and how we think about them as teams plan for 2027.

01

The commerce ecosystem is growing faster than it is simplifying

With a first-time Nashville audience and a show floor full of new names, the sheer number of providers stood out. AI has lowered the cost of building specialized tools, so nearly every category now has a fresh entrant making its case.

Each may be strong on its own. Together they leave retailers with more to evaluate, integrate, and govern than a year ago, and the role of a technology provider is shifting from standalone product to dependable part of a larger system.

Our view: we work across Shopware, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Shopify, commercetools, and more, so retailers can adopt new capabilities without rebuilding what already works.

02

Connection is becoming the real competitive edge

Conversation after conversation came back to one practical question: how does this fit with everything else? Product data, inventory, service, loyalty, and now AI agents all need to work from the same facts.

Early agentic commerce efforts show why. Retailers are still deciding how to structure product data and how to make it available across AI surfaces. Brands that treat integration as a core capability, rather than a one-off project, will move faster with fewer failure points.

Our view: our enterprise integration and data teams focus on making the stack behave like one system, with fewer hand-offs and clearer ownership.

03

AI is being judged on outcomes, not possibilities

Shoptalk Fall's programming leaned toward execution and measurable business impact, and what we heard on the floor matched. The question has moved from what AI can do to where it actually moves a number, such as conversion, cost to serve, or fulfillment reliability.

Agentic commerce remains a major topic, but infrastructure is being built faster than shopper behavior is changing. Forecasts presented at Shoptalk earlier this year ranged from under 9% of ecommerce being agentic by 2029 to as much as half. The practical stance is to get product data agent-ready, start with focused use cases, and measure results.

Our view: through our AI Hub, we help retailers move from pilot to production with Cartivo for shopping agents, Penumbra for AI search visibility, and Nerve for retail operations, each tied to a clear goal.

04

Shopping, content, and community are converging

Shoptalk paired commerce with entertainment, creators, and social shopping this year, and Nashville made the idea tangible. Mainstage conversations, including one between TikTok Shop and Beachwaver Co., reflected how discovery and purchase increasingly happen where people spend their time.

One finding worth remembering: shoppers who receive an AI product recommendation often go on to research it elsewhere, according to a March 2026 EMARKETER and Publicis Commerce survey. Brand, content, and creator work still shape the decision, even as AI becomes part of discovery.

Our view: Penumbra shows brands how they appear in AI-driven search and answers, so content and brand investment translate into being found.

Before you add the next tool

Five questions we think every new technology should answer.

  1. Which business metric does it move, and how will we know within a quarter?
  2. What does it need from our existing data, and what does it give back?
  3. Does it work across our current platforms, or assume a particular stack?
  4. What does it replace, and what new maintenance does it add?
  5. Who owns it after launch?
05

Fewer moving parts is a strategy, not a compromise

More technology brings more complexity, and complexity has a real cost in integration effort, data governance, and team attention. That cost rarely appears in the business case for a new tool, but it shows up quickly in operations.

The providers that earn trust will fit into existing stacks, share data openly, and prove value early. For retailers, the discipline is to evaluate every new capability as part of the whole system, not as a standalone purchase.

Our view: this is the lens we bring to every engagement. Simplify, connect, and measure, so more of the stack is working toward the same outcome.

NULogic at Shoptalk Fall 2026

NULogic was on the floor in Nashville for the full week. Our team met retail and commerce leaders, platform and technology partners, and longtime industry peers, including at the RTM Nexus mixer and an evening at the Gibson Garage hosted by Pipe17, Radial, and Loop.

What we noticed most was how much the conversations had changed. Fewer people asked what is possible, and more asked where a technology will make a difference for their business and how it connects to what they already run.
